Tour to Lake Delio

Lake Delio - Forcora Mountain Pass; Indemini Pass - variant

From Motovarese, KTM bikes, KTM Motorbikes, shop and rental (free pick up at Malpensa Airport),  pick the direction to “Sacro Monte” (Sacred Mountain)-Brinzio- Rancio Valcuvia.

When you reach the Cittiglio-Luino road (SS 394), turn right towrds Luino. In Luino follow the signs to “Maccagno- Zenna - Switzerland”. Just after the town of Maccagno, turn right starting the ascent to the Forcora Mountain Pass -Indemini-Lake Delio: the first bit of the road is all curves, with a beautiful view of the Lake Maggiore (if it’s a sunny day you can see almost all the Lake, and it’s big!). If it’s lunchtime we recommend to stop at the "Osteria del Pozzo”, where you can enjoy lovely food (the specialty is homemade ravioli) and a breathtaking view at fairly good prices.

The second part of the road is more straight and with increasing slope, and it passes through small villages perched on the mountain. at the junction/fork (Forcora vs Lake Delio-Indemini) turn left toward the Forcora Mountain Pass. The road starts to climb again with some curves, but keep the direction to Lake Delio. You have to stop at the lookout point to admire the panorama of the lake (Delio). Lake Delio is an artificial lake, the only one in Italy, where the water is pumped at night from the lake (by the hydroelectric station of Maccagno), and discharged downstream during the day, to keep going the turbines. On the shore you can eat or have a beer, and have a nice walk.

From the lake you can go to the Forcora Mountain Pass where you can ski in winter, and catch tan on the grass in summer, passing trough a paved road (it was unpaved up to 10 years ago). You can also eat or drink there.

Then you go downhill towards Luino (from the same way of Forcora), and when you reach the fork leading to Indemini it’s all up to you:

“Indemini Pass -variant”: if you turn left you’ll reach the Indemini Mountain Pass (in Switzerland) starting point of all the paths leading to Mount Lema and Tamaro(unfortunately only by foot, no bikes allowed….)

The descent is really nice, with its narrow “U-shaped” curves with 15%-slope (it is very nice also going uphill).

Once you’ve reached the Lake Maggiore again, turn left following the signs to Zenna - Luino (Italy), and begin the journey back.
