This tour goes all around Lake Como with its 2 branches, and you can begin your way from different starting points: from Motovarese KTM bike and Motorbike shop and rental (free pick up at Malpensa Airport) follow Como (south-west, on the tip of the western branch of the lake) or descending from Porlezza (on the west part of the lake, see tour B.1).
Then you’ll reach the “Regina” statal road. We recommend a stop in Menaggio.
Follow signs to the village of Dongo (in the northern part of the lake), where you can enjoy panoramic views; driving here is exciting and you’ll meet a lot of “crazy”-motorbikers (and you can have a little race…), but be careful to traffic and speed cameras, especially during holiday periods).
Then go southwards on the eastern brach of the lake, towards Lecco (the village described in Manzoni’s masterpiece “the spouses to be”), really nice to visit (from here you can fit into tour C.2). But before reaching Lecco you’ll pass the village of Mandello del Lario (birth-place of the Guzzi motorbikes, and the museum, if open, is really interesting).
Proceding further on (turning around the tip of the eastern branch of the lake, after Lecco), you’ll reach the area between the 2 branches of the lake, called Larian triangle. Here (northwards to the tip of the triangle) we recommend a visit to Bellagio, the most beautiful place on Lake Como (Bellagio and all its shore can also be reached by ferry from Menaggio - see above).
On the western branch of the lake (after Como), visit Cernobbio, really nice village, famous for the villas, and it’s worth visiting also Varenna with its flower-filled promenade.
The city centre of Como deserves a walk (but be careful to tie/lock your motorbike well, you’re not in Lugano!)to the Cathedral, Piazza Cavour and the villas. If you have time we recommend to go uphill to Brunate: the climb is beautiful (there’s also a cableway) and the view is amazing.
The only dark side of this tour is that unfortunately you cannot go to George Clooney’s house....
